Innovation Is Upsetting | Be Willing to Be Offended on a Regular Basis — with Professor Stephen Hicks

My podcast on the Bill Murphy show is now up on these platforms:

A transcription is also available at the RedZone Blog link.

Themes and questions:

  • The humanities-universities’ shift from classical liberal education with focus on individual and his uniqueness to a post-modern outlook with focus on groups that are fundamental to a person’s identity.
  • If you are an entrepreneur/ business leader, you are also the chief culture officer.
  • Major epochs and what brought us to a post-modern era.
  • Hiring young people out of college who have dramatically different backgrounds, and how to manage their working closely with each other?
  • Post-modernism’s argumentation that individuals are secondary or ultimately not real.
  • How leaders structure their group dynamics to maximize the individual thinking?
  • Why Professor Hicks’ take on ethics in business is a minority position
  • What is equality of outcomes perspective and why is that an issue?
  • How take a new generation that is constantly being offended and integrate them into society and the workforce?
  • Why should you should expect to be offended on a regular basis and develop a thick skin?
  • Why you should be aware that the broader culture is everything?

  1. I skimmed the transcript. Pretty cool conversation.

You are certainly a minority. Around here (Brazil) I don’t see anyone hiring thick-skinned people. They hire women and blacks because of quota and affirmative action and religious/tribal people who won’t rock the boat.

Always good to know that there are better markets out there.
