Nimish Adhia on Bollywood and India’s new prosperity

adhia-fall-2010-thumbnailEconomics professor Nimish Adhia will give a talk at Rockford College on Friday, September 24.

His theme will be India’s setting itself on the road to prosperity and how Bollywood films both signaled and contributed to the cultural shift necessary for economic liberalization to occur. For much of the twentieth century, poverty and stagnation characterized much of India’s economic life, yet within the last generation India has transformed itself and prospects for its 1.1 billion people have improved dramatically. How did this happen?

The title of Professor Adhia’s talk is “Bollywood and India’s Economic Liberalization.” The talk is open to anyone interested.

Time and place: Friday, September 24, 11 a.m., Scarborough 220, Rockford College campus.
